Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line or ADSL is a form of data communications technology that enables fast internet access over conventional copper telephone lines, more commonly known as broadband.
- ADSL is available if you are within 6.2 Km of your local telephone exchange and can give you transfer rates of up to 8Mbits.
- If you are further away then the RADSL product may be available to you. With RADSL the modem adjusts the upstream speed of the connection in an attempt to maintain a certain downstream speed.
- The speed that you connection will operate at is determined at the point of provisioning and is based on line quality.
- The distinguishing characteristic of ADSL is that the volume of data flow is greater in one direction than the other, i.e. it is asymmetric.
- Providers usually market ADSL as a service for consumers to connect to the Internet in a relatively passive mode: able to use the higher speed direction for the "download" from the Internet but not needing to run servers that would require high speed in the other direction.
Rate adaptive ADSL or RADSL is flexible communication technology than can adjust its connection rate based on the current line quality.
- It is a good solution for those on old local phone loops or those who are situated over 6km from the local telephone exchange.
- Both of these products provide a good solution for broadband internet access in your office weather you are situated in a Farm office park or located in a more central location.
Fixed Rate ADSL
- Alternatively customers can choose a fixed rate service available in a choice of three speeds; 512Kbps, 1Mbps or 2Mbps. **The actual speed achieved will depend on the quality of the line.
